Is Shibamaru a Gourmet?|The Day He Fell in Love with a Dog Pancake

Original Shiba Inu and dachshund art featured on the Dog Art from Japan Instagram account alo-wear

We bought a dog-friendly pancake for So-chan and Ruu.

They had tried the same kind before and absolutely loved it.

Watching them enjoy it had made us happy too, so naturally, we thought they would be excited again.

But this time, things were different.

This time, they were not interested at all

When we offered the pancake to So-chan and Ruu, neither of them seemed very interested.

The last time, they had eaten it happily.

This time?

Almost nothing.

Maybe they simply were not in the mood.

Dogs have preferences too, and sometimes yesterday’s favorite snack is not today’s favorite snack.

We were still wondering what to do with the opened pancake when something unexpected happened.

We happened to meet Shibamaru on a walk

While out walking, we ran into Shibamaru.

Shibamaru is known for loving treats.

But there is one important detail.

He may love snacks, but he does not eat just anything.

He is actually quite selective.

You could even say he is a bit of a gourmet.

If a treat does not meet his standards, he will simply leave it.

“Do you think Shibamaru would eat this?”

Before offering anything, we checked with Shibamaru’s family.

The pancake had already been opened, and So-chan and Ruu had not wanted it.

So we asked if Shibamaru might like to try a little.

Of course, every dog has different dietary needs and preferences, so checking first was important.

Then Shibamaru had a small taste.

Would he like it?

Would he refuse it?

The answer came very quickly.

Shibamaru absolutely loved it

He ate it.

And not just politely.

He clearly loved it.

After one bite, he wanted more.

His reaction was much stronger than usual.

And apparently the pancake was so delicious that there was even more drool than normal.

That made everyone laugh.

Shibamaru loves treats.

But he is selective.

So when something really wins his approval, you know it must be good.

So-chan and Ruu’s pancake became Shibamaru’s treat

In the end, Shibamaru happily finished the pancake.

It had originally been bought for So-chan and Ruu.

They were not interested this time.

But by coincidence, it became a perfect treat for Shibamaru instead.

It was a small reminder of how different dogs can be.

One dog refuses something another dog loves.

A snack that was a favorite before may suddenly be ignored.

And a new treat can unexpectedly become a huge success.

That is part of the fun of living with dogs.

Loves treats, but definitely has standards

We often describe Shibamaru like this:

Clever, gentle, and a little reserved.
But he can never resist a treat.

That is based on his real personality.

After this story, we may need to add one more line.

He loves treats—but he is also a gourmet.

And when something is really delicious, there may be a little extra drool too.
