The Colors of My Grandmother’s Kimono|A Quiet Digital Archive of Japanese Color Aesthetics
There are colors that quietly stay in memory.
Deep black.
Soft blue.
Muted green.
Calm purple.
These colors existed within the kimono worn by my grandmother in Japan.
Over time, I began realizing that these pieces were not simply clothing, but small cultural archives filled with atmosphere, texture, and emotion.
To preserve a part of that quiet beauty, I created a small digital booklet:
“The Colors of My Grandmother’s Kimono.”
Rather than teaching kimono formally, this booklet invites readers to casually experience Japanese culture through color, fabric, and visual atmosphere.
Inside are carefully selected photographs from real vintage kimono owned by my grandmother.
Some pieces remain quietly archived for future projects, including formal black tomesode featuring classical Japanese motifs.
This project is part of alo — an independent cultural archive focused on preserving the quiet beauty of Japanese culture through kimono, storytelling, and thoughtful design.
If you would like to experience a small piece of that atmosphere, the digital booklet is available here:
Thank you for supporting small independent cultural projects from Japan.
